Anticipation is building for one of the hottest festivals of the Drogheda calendar year as things begin to take shape for Global Grooves 2019. But just what is Global Grooves all about? What music can you expect to hear?

To explain the true origins of this enigmatic festival we need to talk about the Drogheda Samba Festival. This popular annual festival based on the carnival culture of Brazil was truly loved by the local community for its vibrancy and the culmination of artists and performers for a weekend of celebration of music, dance and art inspired by Brazil, Latin America and Africa. The Carnival Parade which engulfed the streets each year would have been one of the main highlights of the festival. Unfortunately due to funding the Drogheda Samba Festival ceased to continue.

Global Grooves Festival originally started as a fringe event in 2011 to compliment the Drogheda Samba Festival, the festival took centre stage in 2016 as a main event in its own right, when the Samba Festival called it a day. In those 8 years since its inception, the festival has hosted a diverse and eclectic range of national and international artists performing music from around the world. With guests such as Norman Jay, Soothsayers, Don Letts, Ajo Arkestra, Stopmtown Brass, Modified Man, and Feadah to name but a few, joining local legends Cachimbo Brass in creating some amazing dancefloor moments and memories over those years.

This year the curators of Global Grooves are excited to once again bring you three days of top quality music to Odd Mollies Beergarden & Venue. Expects sounds and styles you won't hear on a regular weekend in Drogheda. Expect 12-piece bands with serious percusive and rhythmical talent. Expects Djs with an eclectic mic of tunes. Expect colours.  Expect lights. Expect dancing. Expect positive vibes. Expect good times.

Featuring: Quangodelic, WOB!, Cachimbo Brass, Paj, Manden Express, Timmy Trá, Function Creep, Andrew K, Point Break, DJ Defensive Mixup, Graham Heeney Quartet, Ruairi Moore.
